چکیده

Abstract A desirable scenario for future fusion devices is one in which dissipative processes the scrape-off layer (SOL) are maximized, aiming to detach divertor plasma. The access such a regime current thought be correlated increase of perpendicular particle transport SOL. In this work we investigated numerically how increasing globally affects SOL plasma through SOLPS-ITER code package. For modelled L-mode discharge, performed at ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, trying obtain most accurate fit experimental data outer midplane. Studying solutions and analyzing resulting momentum power balances allowed characterize enhancing leads experimentally observed phenomena, i.e. formation density shoulder midplane partial detachment results suggest that strong losses caused by able explain qualitatively discharge. concurrent enhanced ionization neutrals from recycling, triggered an radial energy SOL, can invoked as cause formation.

2D fluid modeling of the ASDEX upgrade scrape-off layer up to the first wall

We present an application to the full ASDEX upgrade edge plasma of a novel method for 2D fluid modeling, including for the first time a realistic representation of the First Wall. Two independent edge plasma codes are coupled to this purpose: B2 (with a detailed physics content but intrinsic geometrical limitations due to the 5-point computational scheme) for the inner region of the Scrape-Off ...

Convective transport suppression in the scrape-off layer using ion cyclotron resonance heating on the ASDEX Upgrade Tokamak.

Turbulence properties in the scrape-off layer (SOL) in the presence of ion cyclotron frequency heating (ICRH) are compared to instances where it is absent. The discharges are all in a high-confinement mode (H-mode) regime. During ICRH, the SOL plasma density increases whereas turbulence large-scale and convective structures are shown to be suppressed. The probability distribution function is th...

ICRF wave field measurements in the presence of scrape off layer turbulence on the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak (invited).

A new array of B-dot probes was installed on ASDEX Upgrade. The purpose of the new diagnostic is to study Ion Cyclotron Range-off Frequencies (ICRF) wave field distributions in the evanescent scrape-off layer (SOL) plasma region on the low field side of ASDEX Upgrade. The vacuum measurements (no gas, BT = 0 T) reveal ICRF wave field measurements consistent with the profiles expected from the ne...

Convective transport in the scrape-off layer of tokamaks

A detailed study of blob formation, dynamics, and the associated convective transport in the scrape-off layer sSOLd of tokamak plasmas is presented. Dissipation level in the system, in addition to the blob size, is shown to play an important role in determining whether a blob propagates as a coherent object. Nonlinear SOL interchange/ballooning modes are shown to be capable of creating blobs ne...

Vlasov modelling of parallel transport in a tokamak scrape-off layer

A one-dimensional Vlasov-Poisson model is used to describe the parallel transport in a tokamak scrape-off layer. Thanks to a recently-developed ‘asymptoticpreserving’ numerical scheme, it is possible to lift numerical constraints on the time step and grid spacing, which are no longer limited by, respectively, the electron plasma period and Debye length. The Vlasov approach provides a good veloc...
